BANGYBANG RECORDS is an independent Label focused on innovating the musical nostalgia of classic albums that inspired generations. Founded in 2016 by Indie Artist MerlinMoon with the intention to bring back the vintage sounds of classic albums with the gravitas of new technological sound-scaping and electronic bitters.
BangyBang Studios showcases an extensive music collection of equipment and audio processors. Every piece of equipment has been customized and modified to expand its dynamic range and performance without changing its mojo. The newly installed SSL 9048k was wired to the highest standards as well as updating the components that have been worn out in the past decade to maintain the topology and intention of the designers and engineers who built it in the early 2000s. After a long road and unparalleled vision Bangybang records studio presents the versatility of some of the major corporate studios in a boutique form, accessible to all form of arts and artists seeking for a true snapshot of their expression.
After doing extensive research on how to extend the performance of vintage equipment, maximizing its mojo and improve the overall quality, we have used purely high definition capacitors, transistors, fets, opamps and tubes. We have successfully finished the restoration of every piece of equipment in the studio. All the gold faceplates, have fine recall metrics, which most vintage equipment lack. In some pieces, we increased the voltage and also replaced the light bulb with a led to eliminate the unnecessary heat generated. It has taken a full year to modify and recondition every piece of the studio, keeping in a small plastic bag all original components and original faceplates to conserve the collective value of each piece of history.
BangyBang engineering & mastering team based on Juan Carlos Nieto G. and Richard De Avila, are the responsible for making these modifications, while they use the equipment in a daily basis, keeping track of frequency response and transient purity in each piece of the studio. The commercial interfaces ADDA used in most studios are well designed but the aggressive price competition forces manufacturers to lower the quality of the components. We use three interfaces in the studio, 1) Ferrofish 32 channels, 2) Orion Antelope 32 channels 3) Sonic Core. Both ferrofish and Antelope have been modified with new capacitors and op amps. We have increase the headroom by 25db, and the transient response is quicker and more accurate.
The same was done to the speaker management system, custom built with new exaclock , circuit board and ADDA chips. The Augspurger systems where extended with BATMaster Japanese super tweeter that reaches over 100khz. Its not audible, the cut starts at 18khz, but it extends the depth of field and helps lower audible frequencies define themselves once they bounce in the sonic field. And last but not least, Kef Coda & Calinda, mid and nearfield speakers.
Kef originally designed the famous BBC LS35A, based on the CODA design. Truly remarkable speakers, defining excellence of sound without any magic tricks. We have also created some custom mid side matrixes, with the famous UTC ls30 transformers and the Malotki E4 1:1,4 which are super rare in the US although more common in European mastering studios. Always keeping stereo in phase with the classic mid side technique and making sure each Binurial dual mono system replicates the truth of the source. And last the extensive collection of Microphones, chosen by the influence studios like Abbey Road and Decca Uk have on BangyBang Records.
The live room has a Decca Tree, with a pair of RCA ku3a, and a TRIO of Vintage Neumann M50s. Two of the M50s came originally from telefunken studios in Germany. We also modified 8 x RFT 7151, and gold plated them, and updated the circuit to be a line level microphone, eliminating the need for a stage preamp. This has proven to be the best microphone system we own, compared to the Neumann u47, u48, m269, m49 and u67.
