Introduced in 1991, the Roland RSS 8048 is a modulation effect meant to allow for the reproduction of 'three-dimensional audio' through regular stereo systems.
The RSS 8048 is a 24-bit digital unit with an automatic sample frequency selection of 44.1 or 48kHz. It represents an important step in the evolution of high-quality digital audio processing.
This includes the two ADA-8024 converters, the RSS-8048 processor and the SSC-8004 remote controller. This system uses Roland's RSS algorithms to place a sound anywhere in 3D space using two speakers. It can process 4 separate mono sound sources at a time.
